Franz Joseph Designs
The past few days, I've been caught in a Nostalgic mood.
In general, really. Eating tosties, listening to hits of the past, playing old games and watching old films. And then there is reading! After many days of staring at Franz Joesephs original designs for ships (hes done alot!) I found out he did some designs in star trek, that really captivated me. Simple, yet they flowed with the style and consistancy of the universe...and they look pretty awesome ;D
I decided that I would attempt to bring these old designs into the modern age. By modifying Round2's Enterprise kit into a few different forms - even going as far as lighting them with a bunch of LED's (they'll be on the models page when I get around to it! XD) I figured that the best way to begin is to familiarise myself with the designs themselves, and bring them from thier old pages and on to the 'pooter. Here are some images that i've done of his designs in Illustrator, with all the original look/stats* and such (a few liberties/personal preferences aside...we'll call that 'artistic license' ^.^)
Hopefully, ill add a pretty background soon...
*For the nerds: im making these ships in the 'modern day' of ST (Voyager era) so some of the stats will look wierd. Refit? Mothball fleet? Whatever. I just want to make them a little darker than usual, with a good bit of weathering - a little bit like this.

First up, the Franz Joseph take on the Constitution.
Seeing as i'm going to be making one of these soon, I figure I better pick a name for it! Luckly, Franz provided a whole bunch of names & registries for those of us who are terrible at making names. I went with 'Saratoga' because I swear I've heared it before...anyway, here she is! I tried my best to keep to his style, and I've kept all the numbers and such that he provided.
Awesome. Next up is Franz' 'Saladin-class', which is a speedy little destroyer. Its the same sort of look and feel, just notably less complex! I think its a lovely little thing, and cant wait to kitbash one :P It looks as if the Saladin may have been the inspiration behind the U.S.S. Kelvin, from the new movie...
I might build two of these!
I might build two of these!
So, thats all for now.
I might add some nice techy looking backgrounds yet, but we'll see. I may even do one for the Transport/tug kinda vessel that he made...that would be fun to build!
Ciao! ^.^
